Balenciaga Says Goodbye To Twitter After Elon Musk’s Controversial Takeover

Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has led to mass layoffs, and a lot of drama to sum it all up. In a bid to cut down on expenses, and have more advertisers feed Twitter’s bills, Musk immediately slashed his team in half and fell into a dark hole of employee lawsuits. Followed by this, Elon churned out a new format for Twitter, and displayed how the microblogging site should be working.

Amidst all this chaos, the news of Paris-based label– Balenciaga’s sudden exit from Twitter, looks like a pretty good move. While many are still speculating the reason behind the exit, the brand has refrained from supporting its decision with any answers. A part of Musk’s approach to running Twitter was his idea of selling verification, and blue ticks on subscription bases. A few days back, Twitter introduced a new service that offers anyone, and everyone a chance to own a verification mark. Earlier, provided to only authentic, verified accounts, this service has led to duplication of popular brands, and names.

Available at $7.99/month, Musk’s controversial new service has many brands furious. And amongst the list of popular companies, is Balenciaga, joining names like–Whoopi Goldberg, Volkswagen, Pfizer, and more. Many also cited Musk’s idea of selling account verifications, as a way to duplicate, and spread fake news. An example of this was a fake Twitter account, that through this service, impersonated the Pharmaceutical company–Eli Lilly, and tweeted–”insulin is free now.” This move led to a decline in the drug maker’s stock and guided readers towards the wrong direction.

Many brands who left Twitter, talked about the controversial new changes in the platform and hinted at Musk’s problematic way of leading it. Amongst this list, Balenciaga is the first, and so far, the only fashion brand, to have stepped down from the platform.
