Chunky Sneakers Are The New Cool

Chunky Sneakers Are The New Cool

If you haven’t noticed already, nostalgia seems to be the driving force in the fashion industry currently, with high-end fashion brands taking it upon themselves to revive and pay homage to trends that dominated in the ՚90s and early ՚2000s. From mom jeans to slinky tracksuits and even the ubiquitous headband seems to have made a pretty successful comeback.
But even though you might be apprehensive about giving in to the statement pieces of the yesteryears, you won’t say no to the footwear trend that’s all the rage now. The chunky sneaker is officially back and has been embraced like a long-lost brother.
The ugly shoe that has suddenly found its place in the spotlight is reminiscent of the dad sneaker and is a wardrobe favourite among the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and others.
And one of the many brands riding the ՚90s wave and bringing the sneaker to the fore is sports brand Fila, a trusted favourite among its patrons, the brand also happens to have been first kick off the standard dad-sneaker design with the Fila Disruptor, back in 1996. And even though much remains unknown about the 22-year-old sneakers owing to the scarcity of campaign images, when Fila dropped the Disruptor II model with the same old silhouette but superior material in 2018, they sold like hotcakes and went on to be named FN’s Shoe of the Year.

So, it’s no wonder that we look forward to new drops from Fila and the latest one in their kitty is the ‘Made In Italy Disruptor 2’. Designed primarily for women and having debuted at the Milan Fashion Week, the special edition sneaker comes at its glittery best in a shimmery silver avatar, making it quite the statement piece in your sneaker collection. Its signature saw-tooth design at the bottom and silhouette remains the same with an additional glove-leather lining, which adds some extra cushioning, while the exterior gets an all-new upgrade with a high-optic glitter that makes it sparkle under the lights along with silver laces and the trademark Fila logo on the side as well as at the back.

A whole new ballgame, you can leave your stilettos back home because partying in these babies is bound to grab some eyeballs, and pin them down as a must-have this season.

Now we know that Prada knows how to do chunky sneakers, and is clearly knocking it out of the park by dropping their latest offering – Prada Cloudbust Thunder. The upper panelling features rubber and mesh along with a monochromatic colour scheme, but be prepared to be spoilt for choice as Prada is launching the shoe in 6 different colourways. The striking design will definitely be a win with dad-sneaker lovers.

Nike

And of course, how can we forget our trusty pair of Nike. The brand’s trademark dad shoes, the Nike Air Monarch IV got a swanky upgrade on the occasion of Father’s Day with a denim coated exterior and their signature ‘swoosh’ embroidered on the sides along with a floral pattern at the back to go the extra mile. If you ask us, we are crushing on the floral embroidery a bit too much.

So ladies, grab those wallets because we are cashing in on these sneakers.
