Besides picking the right silhouettes, Athiya makes some wise choices in terms of her accessories, as well. Currently, in collaboration with premium eyewear brand–John Jacobs, Athiya is spilling secrets about her favourite eyewear trends through the label’s Fall 2022 edit. Q: What are the three things that you look for while picking your eyewear?
Athiya Shetty: Selecting the right eyewear for my face and personality is super imperative, as that can make or break a look. In addition to choosing the right frame that fits my face shape and compliments my skin tone, I also consider the occasion and the purpose of the glasses. For my everyday glasses, I prefer a nonchalant classic look and for a high fashion aesthetic, I like to experiment with bolder silhouettes.

Q: What are the eyewear trends that you’re obsessed with?
Athiya Shetty: Oversized statement glasses to jazz up a simple look, and striking colourways combined with vintage frames are a few of my all-time favourite eyewear trends.

Athiya Shetty: John Jacobs’ Fall Edit is the perfect blend of exciting colours and statement contours, crafted with supreme quality. Four of my favourite picks from the fall edit have to be Sullivan, Davenport, Barrymore and Lillian.

Athiya Shetty: I have always looked up to evergreen Bollywood beauties like Rekha, Zeenat Aman and Sridevi for their groundbreaking fashion choices. So, recreating any of their iconic looks would be an absolute honour for me.

Athiya Shetty: As trite as it may sound at times, the best red carpet tip consists of two things – Confidence and Comfort. While red carpets and special events are the right windows to experiment and have fun with your personal style, it still needs these two essential factors that can transform a look into a fashion moment.

Q: As a celebrity/influential figure, you are often expected to try and test a million fashion trends that arrive each year. Amidst the noise of multiple trends, stylist suggestions, and competition in terms of fashion with fellow stars, how do you keep your personal style intact? How do you then make sure that your personal taste is not overshadowed by these trends, and you continue to dress up in a mix of both?
Athiya Shetty: Following trends for the sake of staying relevant has never been a priority for me. If something is trending and I resonate with it, I would definitely give it a shot but never out of social pressure.

Q: Celebrities often slide into uncomfortable attires in the name of fashion. Have you ever done that?
Athiya Shetty: I don’t believe in sacrificing comfort for the sake of a look. The feeling of being uncomfortable in an outfit can take the fun out of fashion.
