If New York ever played host to a slice of India’s grandeur, it was on the evening of Sabyasachi’s 25th anniversary celebrations. The designer’s SoHo boutique transformed into a breathtaking celebration of 25 years of Indian luxury. And the guest list was nearly as dazzling as the chandeliers overhead. At the heart of it all stood three figures who embody fashion, legacy, and heritage: Anna Wintour, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, and Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur. Here’s all that went down.

The Sabyasachi corner seemed to glow brighter than ever with the hand-embroidered textiles spreading richness across the room. Anna Wintour and the ever portrait of understated authority in her signature bob and oversized shades, posed gracefully with the designer and Maharaja of Jaipur. With her, Indian couture wasn’t just being celebrated, it was being canonised. The Maharaja, resplendent in his own understated elegance, offered heartfelt praise, describing Sabyasachi as a cultural force reminding the world of India’s timeless beauty.

Speaking of Anna Wintour, during a recent chat on The New Yorker Radio Hour, the ex-editor made a rare comment on The Devil Wears Prada. She said that she went to the film’s premiere without anticipating what was on-screen. For the unversed, many thought the role was based on Wintour’s persona. She said that she really enjoyed the film and found it witty, and praised Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway. Anna even admitted to still discussing the film with designer Miuccia Prada.
