The Fashion At The Filmfare Awards Curtain Raiser Was Interesting And Those Daring Slits Have Us Excited

With so much happening in celebrity fashion out there, it no longer is about ‘Who Wore What’ but ‘She Wore That?!”. It doesn’t even have to be close to good, just shocking enough to warrant a reaction from fashion critics and the internet. If you managed to get the coveted double-take, your look is golden. And while we try to keep a clear head about talking about how a look was turned out, there is a slight chance of falling prey to the phenomenon of discussing at an outrageously risky gown rather than a very elegant one. I mean, we are only human!

Bollywood red carpets are no different when it comes to playing with our feelings. 2020 was a fairly lukewarm year when it comes to pushing the envelope with one’s willingness to go bold. Most of them give in to the temptation of playing it safe, grabbing on the usual ball gowns or statement slits for dear life. There are just too many similarly done styles and given how international red carpets are more accessible to us through social media and news, the bulk of appearances we see on a monthly basis are a lot of seen that. It has to be different in order to be exciting, and Amazon Filmfare Awards curtain-raiser definitely delivered.

Nushrat Bharucha’s ‘Strappy’ Dare

I love Nushrat Bharucha’s moxie when it comes to diving deep into the dangerous dresses pile and coming up with something nobody else will wear. And that’s a good thing, in her case. The actress knows how to style her petite frame in the sexiest of silhouettes, which pretty much compensates for the lack of big gowns in her lookbook. The emerald green draped number she wore last night was held together with two dainty little leather straps and if that doesn’t flare up your anxiety, I don’t know what will!

Malavika Mohanan In Hot Pink

There is a reason why Malavika Mohanan is a red carpet fave of designers who work with deep plunges and cropped blouses – this woman does not shy away from a challenge. The hot pink Gaby Charbachy gown is stunning with its side slit and pointed corset bustier and a diamond choker necklace look so good on her, it’s like she was poured into it.

Ananya Panday’s ‘D’orsay’ Slit

No, the really big bow on this Galia Lahav gown does not distract us from the toned stems perfectly wearing the D’orsay’ slit! Ananya Panday seems to be experimenting with statement sleeves a lot lately and this batwing style suits her well. The studded pumps add a touch of rock n’ roll to the otherwise feminine dress, this was a win for us.

Tara Sutaria In A Deep Plunge

I do wonder why they decided to shoot Tara Sutaria’s Jad Ghandour sequinned dress in black and white because it is such a rich mix of fabric and trims that it could certainly use some colour! The one-shoulder puffed detail keeps it girly and youthful and that is a great way to show off a knee-length side slit without disturbing the silhouette. How fabulous!

Vaani Kapoor In Center-Slit

It is tricky to do a centre-slit because you are constantly choosing between legs to stick out and show off the cut. Vaani Kapoor is the second Gaby Charbachy entrant on this list and the sheer overlay corseted gown sits so well on her. We love the ruching on the skirt, paired with a sweetheart neckline, it stays on point of looking super hot.

Rakulpreet Singh In Sequins

It must be nice to have the ability to make a charcoal grey shimmery gown look without stepping into the ‘disco ball’ inspired clothing territory. The one-shoulder draped number from Dolly J is an unconventional silhouette for a Bollywood red carpet and we love that somebody finally decided to do it!
