Whenever I have to look at a celebrity’s style file for inspiration on casual yet fun looks, I usually scroll through images featuring Alia Bhatt. I’ve said this before: when it comes to off-duty looks, the actress ensures she works stylish ensembles that any 20-something can easily pull off. Her stylist Ami Patel ensures that not only does her look trend on social media but you cannot find fault with it either. Which is the reason why she’s our muse when it comes to girly, fun, and on-trend looks.

Alia has now taken to promoting her next release Udta Punjab by doing what most of us are wary of — mixing prints. She wore a gingham shift dress by designer Aniket Satam. In an easygoing layered look for summer, she teamed up the dress with a long, tartan waterfall jacket. The actress completed her look with a pair of kicks from Bershka.

The way I see it, this is a classic example of how important it is to mix the colours rather than the prints. Monochrome, being neutral, is easy to work into any ensemble. And here, Alia’s monochrome jacket is a great addition to the look. Checks on checks is a rather easy way to mix prints. And if you’re apprehensive about trying it out, this look can totally be your initial experiment.

Like the look as much as I do? Here’s where you can find a similar outfit for a reasonable price.
