While Day 1 of Amazon India Fashion Week was nothing short of kickass with fun, experimental hair and make-up looks thrown our way, Day 2 was more about classic beauty looks like berry stained lips, bottom heavy kohled eyes, and glossy bronzed skin. While I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed (because old is gold, ya’ll!), Day 1 just made me expect more in the hair and make-up department. Here’s what I liked from Day 2 of the Autumn-Winter edition of AIFW 2016:
Heavily-Kohled Lower Lids
Call it grungy if you may, but heavily-kohled lower lids have been an Indian trademark for as long as I can remember. The models at Anita Dongre’s Grassroots show just reinstated my faith in my trusty kohl pencil. What I found striking apart from the thick kohl was the bow buns the models wore on their hair. No points for guessing that it was Elton J Fernandez behind the gorgeous creations. Catch him in action here.
Deep Berry Lips
Some things will never go out of fashion, like plum and berry lipsticks for fall. However, nobody said anything about having to wear it the same way year after year. Models at Dhruv Kapoor‘s show wore a subtle gradiant lipstick. A deep berry lipstick was applied to the lips, followed by a black eye pencil that Elton subtly buffed into the centre of the models’ lips. Who knew you could use your eyeliner for a gradient look! The models also wore glossy, slicked-back hair, but it was styled in a 90s-style crimp. Not sure we want to revisit this trend, though!
High-Intensity shine
If I can look even half as good as the models at the Malini Ramani and Nikasha shows with their radiant, bronzed skin, glossy eyes and lips with a light dusting of gold shadow, and the faintest hint of terracotta blush, I can die in peace!
Quilted hairstyle
You’d be lying if you didn’t say that the first thing you noticed at Samant Chauhan‘s show was the intricate quilted hairstyle. It reminded me of the architectural design hairstylist Guido Palau had created for Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2011 show. The models’ tresses were woven intricately to look like woven straw baskets.
Gold Rush
The best is reserved for the last and Rajesh Pratap Singh‘s show was well worth the wait. The make-up was in sync with the title of the show — The Gold Rush. The creamy gold shadow that stretched from temple to temple gave the models warrior princess vibes, and I’m quite digging it!
