Gradiant Eyeliner, Braids And Glossy Lids On Day 1 Of AIFW

Gradiant Eyeliner, Braids And Glossy Lids On Day 1 Of AIFW

Varun Bahl kicked off the Autumn/Winter 2016 edition of Amazon India Fashion Week, and I must say that the makeup and hair at all the shows yesterday were not disappointing in any way. From a gradiant cat eye to marsala lips, whimsical braids and fresh ways to wear a voluminous updo, there was beauty inspiration in every show. With the way Day 1 has panned out, I can’t wait to see what the other days have in store!

Gradiant eyeliner

I expect fun and experimental looks wherever makeup artist Elton J Fernandez is concerned. Remember the freckled faces and Minni Mouse bow buns from last season’s shows? His makeup for the opening show by Varun Bahl was no different. It had a young and fresh vibe about it. While it’s no secret that using lip gloss only in the centre of the lower lips will make your lips look plumper, we hardly see anyone using a highlighter to do the same. That’s a great trick, girls, and one that you can easily incorporate IRL. While it’s obvious that dewy, radiant skin isn’t making way for matte yet, what I really loved was the idea of gradiant eyeliner. After the gradiant hair colour and gradiant lipsticks, I wonder why nobody thought of gradiant eyeliner earlier.

Scarlet lips

Looks like one of the most classic lip colours associated with Fall is pretty much here to stay as was obvious at the Hemant & Nandita and Pallavi Mohan where models made a statement with their bold lips in the scarlet-plum lipsticks that they wore. The clean-barring mascara eyes coupled with the expertly contoured cheekbones and plum lips made for a fierce look. The models wore their hair in loose, lived-in textured waves. It looks like their hair was braided and then flat-ironed to get that texture as is apparent from Ambika Pillai’s Instagram.

The New Way To Updo

Despite seeing some really beautiful updos, I am a little wary about wearing my hair up because I think updos make you look older. However, Elton just gave us an updo that’s super modern at the Shantanu + Nikhil show. The tousled waves were twisted and pinned to create a messy, voluminous updo. All you have to do is tease the hair at the crown and then gather your hair together in the centre of your head, twist it downwards and pin it place. The technique is pretty similar to the French knot but instead of rolling upwards you roll downwards. Damn neat!

Intense Graphic Eyes

One of the boldest looks by far was the one we saw at Kiran Uttam Ghosh‘s show. I’m impressed how the monotony of the dark smoky eyeshadow is broken by the light shimmery shadow used in the inner corners of the eye. It opens up the eye despite such a strong dark shadow look. What I really LOVED though was the graphic block on the outer corners of the eye stretching all the way to the temples. It looked like a faux-winged eyeliner only stronger!

High-Intensity Gloss

The models at Gaurav Gupta‘s show shone bright, and literally so! Apart from the stunning Marsala lips that they wore, their eyelids and cheeks were covered with copious amounts of gloss. Very high intensity, very high on glamour!

Whimsical Braids

One thing that we are clearly not tiring of is braids. Just when we thought there cannot be any more variations of the same, we got another kickass braidspiration from Gaurav Jai Gupta‘s show. The colourful scarf ensconced in the braids was an interesting detail.
