Netflix film Bhakshak directed by Pulkit Negi is a crime thriller that is inspired by several real-life events. The narrative of the film revolves around an independent journalist, Vaishali (played by Bhumi Pednekar) who unravels the dark reality of a shelter home where young girls are subjected to sexual abuse. With support from SSP Jasmeet Kaur (played by Sai Tamhankar) and the resilient eyewitness, Sudha (played by Tanisha Mehta), the reporter fights for justice while encouraging people to speak up against the wrongs. And now, in an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, Bhakshak star Sai Tamhankar spoke about the film and the impact she hopes the film to create. The actress who portrayed SSP Jasmeet Kaur shared that she hopes the film encourages people to stand up against the wrongs in society even if it doesn’t directly involve them or their loved ones.

Sai Tamhankar shed light on how the aim behind Bhakshak was to stimulate societal awareness and provoke action against wrongdoings. The film directed by Pulkit, hopes to convey a powerful message that transcends the screen and encourages viewers to become proactive participants in addressing societal issues.

When asked about what she hopes people take away from Bhakshak, Sai Tamhankar said, “I hope and I wish that people at least are aware, sensitive and responsible for such acts when they are happening around them, they won’t be silent anymore. They will react, take action and they will be awake. That is what I want to happen through this film.”

She stressed the importance of starting conversations in society, and making people more aware, sensitive, and responsible. Sai Tamhankar genuinely hopes that Bhakshak sparks a change, pushing people to break their silence when they witness something wrong. She believes our feelings have weakened over time and emphasizes the need for society to reconnect with deep emotions and understanding. “I think our emotions with time have diluted. We need to feel more. We don’t feel anymore, that’s what we have come to. From Bhakshak, I also want people to believe in our system, our protocols, our judiciary system and our being,” added the actress.

Sai Tamhankar emphasizes that while teamwork is crucial, it often takes the initiative of one person to bring about meaningful change. According to Sai Tamhankar, the film not only aims to awaken individual sensitivity but also wants to build trust in existing systems. “We always look at the flip side, but there are officers like Jasmeet in the field. It only takes one responsible, sensitive and aware person to change things. It’s always teamwork but the initiation sometimes happens from one person. A person needs support to get to the root cause of these wrongdoings. What we are trying to say through this film is that of course it’s teamwork, but one voice needs to rise,” pointed out the actor.

While review aggregator websites did not rate the film very highly, Bhakshak has received raving reviews from critics who have hailed the performances of the film. This goes without saying that this film made noise and highlighted the need for people to talk about the wrongs and stand up against crimes.
