The filmmaker in a recent interview talked about her upcoming project Archies and also put forth her opinion on the representation in films and its significance.

Zoya Akhtar as a filmmaker has showcased her personal philosophies through her films, the interview makes it all the more evident. While talking about representation in films, Zoya said that representation is when the personality or identity of a person is validated by popular culture. She further adds that this validation is not limited to women, even men, other communities, and the disabled are also misrepresented or badly represented in the films.

Zoya backed up her opinion by saying that when the movies were made in the 80s and 90s, aspects like tenderness and consent were absent in the movies, and also molestation scenes were there. Zoya further said that these things affect the psyche of the country. Such films also had women who had no freedom of expression which makes a huge difference, the filmmaker asserted in the interview.
