Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has spoken out about the emotional distress he went through during his break-up with Dhanashree Verma, saying that the experience threw him into depression and triggered ideas of self-harm. The leg-spinner revealed that at the toughest moment of his life, he was plagued by sleepless nights, endless tension, and irksome sadness. “There were moments when I wept for hours, slept very little, and could not concentrate on anything. It continued like that for more than a month. I even informed my close friend that I did not want to live anymore. I was terrified,” he conceded, admitting that the pressure had taken him to the extreme.
Chahal and Dhanashree got married in 2020, but things began to go awry a few years into the marriage. Even while growing apart, the couple refused to talk until they had made up their minds. “We were already fighting, but we didn’t want to present it to the world. We maintained the facade on social media because we weren’t sure we would hit rock bottom,” he explained.
When questioned if the relationship was being depicted as normal even with ongoing problems, Chahal softly affirmed that they were attempting to look fine even when it was anything but.
Responding to the rumours of cheating that surfaced during the divorce, Chahal categorically rejected them. “When people began saying I was having an affair, it hurt an awful lot. I’ve never been that sort of person. I’ve always been faithful, and I genuinely care for the people around me,” he added, but unsubstantiated assumptions can be horribly destructive.
