Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has opened up for the first time about his divorce from Dhanashree Verma, revealing that the separation had been in the works for quite some time. In a recent conversation on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s YouTube channel, the 35-year-old spoke candidly about the emotional toll the breakup took on him and how he dealt with public scrutiny and personal grief behind the scenes.
Yuzvendra Chahal Responds To Divorce With Dhanashree Verma
For the uninitiated, Yuzvendra Chahal, who had married Dhanashree in 2020, and soon enough the couple started having issues by the third year of marriage. But they did not make their issues public until things took an irreversible turn. He confessed that they even continued to project themselves as a normal couple on social media while their relationship was crumbling internally.
The leg-spinner said that both he and Dhanashree were completely immersed in their careers, making it difficult to invest in the relationship. With time, the gap of not being together grew. “When two people are always working towards their personal goals, it is difficult to keep the bond intact,” he explained. He added that successful relationships need compromise, but often, personality and ambition just don’t match.
Countering the criticism he faced in the divorce, Chahal categorically denied infidelity claims. He portrayed himself as a devoted and emotionally generous person, stating that people around him are aware of his real nature. He also complained of being judged by individuals who were unaware of what actually transpired but continued to make assumptions for attention or social media fame.

Yuzvendra Chahal also spoke of his mental battles during this time. He disclosed that the pressure caused him depression, he couldn’t sleep, and even thought of committing suicide. He told that he was emotionally drained and for more than a month, he hardly slept, and felt losing grip on his life. He confided in these feelings in a close friend because he was afraid.
