An Emmy-Winner with countless iconic roles is successful shows like Desperate Housewives, Northern Exposure, and Young Sheldon, Valerie Mahaffey, 71, passed away. The sad news was confirmed by her publicist, Jillian Roscoe, confirmed that she passed away on Friday in Los Angeles, after a long battle with cancer. The news was received with a lot of pain and heartbreak from the fans all across.
Valerie Mahaffey Passes Away
Valerie Mahaffey was the only actress from Northern Exposure to win an Emmy Award in 1992. The comedy-drama television series about the eccentric citizens of the fictitious town of Cicely, Alaska, ran on CBS from July 12, 1990 to July 26, 1995, consisting of 110 episodes. Throughout its six-season run, it got 57 award nominations and won 27, including the 1992 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, two more Primetime Emmy Awards, four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes.
Mahaffey also appeared in the hit show Desperate Housewives as Alma Hodge. While she was seen as teacher Victoria MacElroy in Young Sheldon. Valerie also had prominent roles on Seinfeld, ER, Cheers, The Mindy Project, and in films such as Seabiscuit and Sully. She starred in films like French Exit (2020), The Witch Flies, No Pay, Nudity, Xrazy Eyes, If I Were You, and Jack and Jill.
Born in Indonesia, Valerie Mahaffey moved to the US at age 11. She pursued her education from the University of Texas and later began acting career in Broadway. She was survived by her husband, Joseph Kell, and their daughter, Alice. Kell stated, “I have lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses.”
