While shooting for films and advertisements, vanity vans become the second home for actors on set. It is the place for them to have some privacy and time to relax amid the hectic schedules. Many actors, including Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt, are famous for their ultra-luxurious mobile homes. But did you know who started the trend of vanity vans during the many challenges faced by artists during outdoor shoots? Well, it is none other than Poonam Dhillon!

The introduction of vanity vans in India came as a rescue for many actors, as they were earlier forced to drive back to hotels to change during outdoor shoots. And contrary to popular belief, the credit for bringing this change doesn’t go to any veteran actors but veteran star Poonam Dhillon, who introduced this concept to the Indian film industry. Known for films like Kala Pathar and Trishul, the actress got this idea while shooting abroad and got to know that they were called trailers or makeup vans.

And just when she saw it, she realised the immense comfort this would bring to the Indian sets for actors. After she brought the idea back home with her, she converted a bus into a vanity with air conditioning, a makeup room, and a toilet. It was Poonam Dhillon who also coined the term ‘vanity van’ into the industry, which has now become a generic term. Earlier this year, she also shared some nostalgic pictures with Anil Kapoor and Sridevi hanging out at her vanity van back in the day. She wrote, “I didn’t realise I was making Film History when I launched my first mobile makeup van, VANITY “. Most Artists thank me for introducing the concept to the Film Industry !! Earlier had tough time shooting on location- no toilets, no place for meals or changing clothes, sitting in heat & dust.”
