National Award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad died on Saturday at the age of 61, leaving behind a legacy of more than a few decades and an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Popular for his magic in films such as 83, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Ponniyin Selvan, Gaikwad’s artistry was lauded throughout Bollywood, Marathi, Bengali, and South Indian cinema. Vikram Gaikwad’s own career in the industry started as a makeup artist with Sardar and soon earned him praise for his meticulous work ethic. He was awarded the National Film Award for Best Makeup Artist in 2012 for the work done on The Dirty Picture and did the same in 2014 for Jaatishwar.
