On Sunday, much-loved and popular actress Nusraat Faria was arrested at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport. Widely known for playing the role of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Shyam Benegal directorial Mujib: The Making of a Nation, the police caught her while she tried to board a flight to Thailand. As per reports, the reason behind Nusraat Faria’s arrest is her connection to an attempted murder case from the anti-government protests that led to Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. The actress is accused of funding the Awami League’s efforts to suppress a student-led movement. According to authorities, she indirectly supported violent actions during the protests, which shook the nation and ended Hasina’s 15-year rule. Alongside Faria, 16 other actors, including Nipun Akter, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Suborna Mustafa, Symon Sadik, Jyotika Jyoti, and Meher Afroz Shaon. Others are Rokeya Prachy, Azizul Hakim, Sohana Saba, Apu Biswas, and Zayedn, who were also accused. In a conversation with Prothom Alo, Shafiqul Islam, a police officer, stated that Nusraat Faria was taken to Vatara Police Station from the airport. Later, she went to the Detective Branch office. They asked her more questions.
