Who Is Malayalam Actress Navya Nair, Arrested In Melbourne Airport For Carrying Gajra?

In recent turn of events, popular Malayalam actress Navya Nair was stopped at Melbourne Airport in Australia. She was fined over Rs 1 Lakh for carrying a 15-cm-long jasmine gajra. The actress was travelling to attend the Onam celebrations organised by the Malayali Association of Victoria. Here’s all you need to know about her and the incident that happened with her!
About Navya Nair
Navya Nair was born in Dhanya in Muthukulam, Kerala. She is best known for her work in the Malayalam cinema, with a few roles in Kannada and Tamil films. She is also a trained classical dancer and won the prestigious Kalathilakam title in school. She later did a degree in English, and her screen name was given to her by director Sibi Malayil. Navya then married a Mumbai-based Malayali called Santhosh Menon in 2010, and had a son named Sai Krishna.
Nair went ahead to make her debut in 001 with Ishtam opposite Dileep, which became a success and earned her acclaim as an actor. Success followed with films like Mazhathullikkilukkam (2002) and Kunjikoonan. This cemented her place as one of Malayalam cinema’s leading actresses. Soon after her marriage, the actress took a break from films and began entering television programs. She is currently one of the judges on the reality show Kidilam with Mukesh and Rimi Tomy.
Talking about the incident at an event, Navya Nair said that it was her father who bought her the Jasmine and cut it in two parts. He asked her to wear one in her hair from Kochi to Singapore, and keep the second one in the bag so she could wear it from Singapore onwards. She put it in the carry bag. Nair admitted that she made a mistake unknowingly, leading her to pay a hefty amount of 1,980 AUD which is Rs 1.14 Lakhs for a 15-cm jasmine string.
