Indian cinephiles are in for a treat as The Godfather trilogy is coming back to theatres in a breathtaking 4K restoration. On Tuesday, PVR INOX announced Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic films will be re-released at select cinemas starting this September. The release starts with the original The Godfather (1972) on September 12th, then The Godfather Part II on October 17th, and lastly The Godfather Part III on November 14th.

All three films are to be screened in 4K, which will allow audiences to experience or see for the very first time one of cinema’s greatest epics in a format that does it justice.

What Is The Godfather Trilogy About?

Adapted from Mario Puzo’s novel, The Godfather is the tale of the mighty Corleone crime family headed by patriarch Vito Corleone, played by Marlon Brando. The initial movie was a critical and box-office success, and it won several Academy Awards, such as Best Picture, Best Actor for Brando, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Coppola and Puzo.

Its successors continued to receive similar accolades, solidifying the trilogy as a landmark of world cinema. Iconic performances by Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, and Robert De Niro transformed the films into timeless classics that continue to inspire filmmakers across the globe.

Referring to the re-release, PVR INOX’s Niharika Bijli stated that presenting The Godfather trilogy in 4K is all about providing Indian audiences with an unparalleled cinema experience. She added that such movies are considered the gold standard of filmmaking, where great performances are blended with great direction.
