Filmmaker Karan Johar is dominating the headlines, this time not for his films or fashion choices, but for supposedly getting his face insured. Though Karan Johar has yet to confirm the news, a post on Reddit has been sending the internet into a frenzy, stating that he made several trips to South Korea to obtain the insurance. According to the viral post, Karan Johar was possibly encouraged by a friend from the South Indian film community. It also asserted that since he took out the insurance, he’s been palpably more chilled out, smiling more, not getting so anxious at work, and even tossing in the occasional compliment. And it left readers speculating whether such an insurance policy would cover everyday stuff like acne, wrinkles, or even a sunburn.
What Is Face Insurance That Karan Johar Got?
Essentially, face insurance is an economic cushion for individuals whose livelihood depends on the appearance of their face. Consider actors, TV personalities, influencers, and models, anyone whose face is basically a trademark. These specialised insurance policies insulate against possible loss of earnings if their looks are marred by accidents, failed cosmetic treatments, medical conditions, or even unexpected surgeries.
The concept is straightforward: if a celebrity misses out on deals, endorsements, or movie roles due to facial disfigurement, the insurance pays up financially. In others, it even pays for the medical treatment for recuperation or for corrective surgery. To public figures, it can be as crucial as a company safeguarding its most valuable equipment.
Though the idea might seem luxurious, it’s not novel. In fact, it’s an extension of body-part insurance, which has long been a favourite among celebrities. From musicians ensuring their voices to athletes ensuring their legs, it’s all about insuring the parts of the body that make them famous and rich.

Other Celebs Who’ve Insured Their Assets
Karan Johar, if reports are to be believed, is following the footsteps of a long list of Indian and foreign stars who’ve done the same. Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly insured his voice, Anil Kapoor has done the same, and John Abraham has insured his buttocks, reports say. In the international limelight, Jennifer Lopez was making news when she reportedly insured her curves for 27 million. Mariah Carey outdid her by insuring her vocal cords and legs for $70 million. David Beckham, a soccer player, had insured his legs for roughly the same figure some time back, while model Heidi Klum had hers insured separately due to a tiny scar.
