Wednesday star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who dazzled the public as Morticia Addams in the show, returns for Season 2 of the popular series on Netflix, but this time in a larger capacity. In an interview with Hindustan Times, she spoke about returning to Wednesday’s universe, working with director Tim Burton, and why she’s drawn an unexpected parallel between the Addams family and Indian homes.
Catherina Zeta-Jones Compares Wednesday’s The Addams Family To Indian Families
Discussing the show’s ongoing popularity and her role in it, Catherine Zeta-Jones mentioned that she is thankful to remain involved in such innovative productions. Discussing being given the chance to portray Morticia, she added it was a privilege to be selected by Tim Burton for so distinctive a character. She also complimented her co-actors, Jenna Ortega and Luis Guzmán among them, as being wonderful people who make each day of filming a joy.
What was most striking about the conversation, however, was her love for India. A regular guest and avid fan of Indian culture, Catherina Zeta-Jones discussed how the morals of the Addams family are reminiscent of Indian traditional families.
She said that although the Addams can be perceived as strange or unconventional, they have a very strong sense of family and togetherness that is similar to how Indian families live with inter-generational connections and well-established traditions.
“They are encouraging individuality,” she said, comparing it to settings where children must conform. At the Addams’ home, she continued, children are encouraged to be themselves if they’re different,” she said to Hindustan Times.
