Netizens Release Public Apology To Wang Yibo Following Court Verdict

On 17 November, a Chinese netizen issued a public apology to actor and singer Wang Yibo after a Beijing court ruled that their posts about the star had infringed his legal right to reputation. This apology came after the court determined that the remarks made by the person went beyond personal commentary and could be considered defamatory.

The ruling revealed that the netizen had made offensive claims along with edited images of Wang Yibo that created a false impression of the actor to many. The court’s verdict was that this was an unlawful attack on Yibo’s public image.

Shortly after the verdict, the person released an apology admitting that their actions were irrational and inappropriate. They also stated that they will be accepting all the legal consequences and will ensure not to repeat their mistakes.

Wang Yibo’s company, Yuehua Entertainment, stated that the netizen had repeatedly made false claims and comments about Wang Yibo, and they had previously addressed the matter as well. The company sought legal action to protect the artist.

More data show that Wang Yibo has launched multiple defamation disputes; other defendants in the list show various tech companies as well.
