For us it’s a special moment and it has once again happened, as On Saturday, Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy created a historic moment by winning the Best Director award in the Orizzonti (Horizons) section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. All You Need To Know About Anuparna Roy Who Won Best Director At 82nd Venice Film Festival

Anuparna Roy won the award for her debut feature film, Songs of Forgotten Trees and it was presented by Anurag Kashyap. As reported by the Hindustan Times, she dedicated her win to women worldwide and honoured those who have been silenced or underestimated. The director expressed hope that her achievement would inspire more women to share their stories and claim their place in cinema and more.

She hails from a small village called Narayanpur in West Bengal’s Purulia district. Anuparna Roy graduated with a degree in British English Literature from Burdwan University. For years, she worked regular 9-to-5 jobs in corporate companies in Delhi and Mumbai.

But her love for cinema was super strong and to pursue this, she earned a diploma in acting from Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares Institute and participated in several acting workshops in Mumbai. Anuparna Roy began her filmmaking journey as an assistant director with a short film called Run to the River in 2023. It gained immense love from critics and audiences.

Further, she created her first feature film, Songs of Forgotten Trees and the rest is history. Well, her win is an example of how believing in yourself is important. No matter what happens, trust yourself and your work and you’ll surely do great!
