Internet Slams Remake Of ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ Song
‘Chunnari Chunnari’ is a famous song from the 1990 film Biwi No.1. The recreated version features Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde from Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. This triggered massive outrage soon after its release, with many accusing Bollywood of “ruining” 90s gem songs. They also slammed Dhawan for not creating something new and just banking on nostalgia. Many took to X (Previously Twitter) and bashed this, saying that even the styling and choreography looked “average.” They accused the makers of ruining a “perfect track.”
Many even called it “cringe”, stating that we had moved past since the 90s and that the audience wanted something new in this era. Though not everyone bashed this, many stated that the ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ remake was actually good and that there was nothing wrong with bringing back a memory. They praised Varun Dhawan’s performance and said that, though it couldn’t match Salman Khan’s, it was good.
At the recently held David Dhawan Film Festival hosted by PVR INOX, the filmmaker came with his son Varun Dhawan. But all the spotlight was stolen by Salman Khan, who playfully told the audience that Dhawan had picked “another one” of his songs, leaving Varun smiling and replying, “Brother, please let it go.” For the unversed, Varun had previously featured in multiple recreations of Salman Khan’s songs, including ‘Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12’ and ‘Oochi Hai Building.’
