In a recent exclusive interview on Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, television actress Urvashi Dholakia, best known for her iconic role as Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, shared her thoughts on feminism, equality, and how society perceives gender roles today. Urvashi Dholakia expressed that while she supports equal rights, she does not consider herself a feminist. “I believe it depends on how you bring up your children. What kind of exposure they get and how they understand the world around them,” she explained.

Urvashi Dholakia then pointed out that discussions around feminism often take a different turn from their original intent. “Feminism started with the idea of equality, but somewhere along the way, things changed,” she said. She also spoke about how, in some cases, the balance seems to have shifted. “I hear so many stories, and suddenly, it feels like we have moved way above men. When did this happen? We don’t even realize it,” she questioned. Dholakia made it clear that she does not believe men are superior either but emphasized the need for consistency in the movement. “If we started with equality, then let’s stick to that,” she stated.

The actress acknowledged the struggles that women face but stressed that the approach should be different. “I understand why some people react the way they do. It hasn’t been easy for women in many situations, and I completely agree with that,” she said. However, she also cautioned against taking an aggressive stance. “That doesn’t mean we go on a warpath,” she added.

Instead, Urvashi Dholakia believes in perseverance and strength. “Fight your way through challenges, that’s what proves how courageous, strong-headed, and hardworking a woman is,” she said. According to her, true empowerment comes from resilience and determination rather than conflict.
