Udit Narayan’s First Wife Launches Case
According to a report in Navbharat Times, Ajay Kumar, Ranjan Shah’s legal representative, revealed that she wished to get bafck together with Udit Narayan. She cited the reason to be advancing age and health concerns. Despite the court’s attempt to reconcile them, the singer was firm on his decision to not live with her.
After their marriage in 1984, Udit Narayan distanced himself from Ranjan Shah after rising to fame. After escalating disputes, she approached the Women’s Commission, where he reportedly promised to give her financial support. This also included giving hr a flat, but he later failed to fulfill his commitments.
As a result, the family court received a new maintenance case. Narayan accused Ranjana Jha of trying to extort money and giving the court misleading information in his written defence. A previous disagreement had been jointly resolved before the Bihar Women’s Commission in 2013, he added, and he consented to a monthly payment of Rs 15,000, which was raised to Rs 25,000 in 2021. The artist further claimed to have gifted her jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh, agricultural land worth Rs 1 crore, and a house worth Rs 1 crore.
She retorted that he denied her legitimate status as his wife and withheld Rs 18 lakh from a land transaction in Nepal in spite of these accusations. When she tried to meet him in Mumbai, she also accused him of harassing her.
Human rights attorney S.K. Jha has escalated the case by submitting two applications to the Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), according to the same source. Jha emphasised that it is illegal to get married again without first legally ending a previous marriage under the Indian Constitution and the Hindu Marriage Act. He maintained that Udit Narayan’s acts violate human rights and undercut the rights of women.
