The ongoing debate about K-pop idols and their live performance skills has ignited a heated debate online. This time, the topic centres around two of the biggest girl groups in the Korean industry, BLACKPINK and TWICE. Since both groups are currently on tour, their fandoms constantly compare one with the other. Read on to know what the fans are talking about!
The controversy began when a video featuring TWICE members Mina, Momo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon was posted on X, where it went viral. In the clip, the members were singing and dancing with less energy than usual. Their performance received intense criticism, with many questioning the quality of TWICE’s live performances.
However, fans and other netizens were quick to defend TWICE by explaining that the video was taken out of context. According to fans, the video in question was not of a choreographed performance segment but rather a fan interaction segment where TWICE members were engaging with the audience.
BLACKPINK And TWICE Performance Comparison
Still, the viral video clip sparked intense debate on X (formerly known as Twitter) between TWICE and BLACKPINK fans. BLACKPINK fans claim that their favourite group has set the standard for global performances. The group is known for their Coachella performances and VMA performances. However, BLACKPINK also have come under criticism when videos from their latest DEADLINE tour were shared. Members were caught dancing unsynchronised, which directed a lot of hate towards them.

But many feel that constantly pitting the two girl groups against each other is fruitless. Performing for more than 2+ hours in concerts is no easy task. On top of that, K-pop choreographies are very intense, and while performing live, it is bound that K-pop idols might get tired and not give their 100% at all times. Cherry-picking clips whenever an idol slips up is not right. We should always treat K-pop idols as humans, too, because that is what they are. Constant comparisons between BLACKPINK and TWICE do not lead to any productive conversation, and it’s about time the internet stops doing it.
