Why Did Tupac Shakur’s Friend Smoked Away His Ashes? Details Inside!

More than 25 years after Tupac Shakur’s untimely death, one of the most bizarre stories tied to the rapper’s legacy has resurfaced and it comes directly from Suge Knight. Currently behind bars, the former Death Row Records head gave a surprising account of what allegedly happened to Tupac’s remains shortly after his passing.

Tupac Shakur’s Friend Allegedly Smoke His Ashes?

In a candid phone call from prison shared with PEOPLE, Suge claimed that a close circle of Tupac’s friends decided to honor the late rapper in an unconventional way by mixing his ashes into marijuana and smoking it. “They rolled him up,” Suge said, describing a private gathering held the night Tupac was cremated. According to him, he was the only one in the group who didn’t join in, citing his probation status at the time as the reason he stayed out of it. “It was symbolic,” he added. “Like keeping him with them.”

Knight also recalled how Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, was adamant about an immediate cremation and dismissed the idea of a traditional funeral. Despite Tupac reportedly telling Suge that he wanted a full-scale memorial where “every rapper would grab the mic,” Afeni insisted on a quiet and fast farewell. Knight said he tried to push back, but her decision was final. “She told me to get it done,” he remembered.

The dramatic night of Tupac’s shooting was also revisited. On September 7, 1996, Suge and Tupac were leaving a Mike Tyson fight when their car was ambushed. Tupac was hit multiple times, while Suge was grazed. He attempted to rush Tupac to the hospital, driving through chaos and flat tires, but the injuries proved fatal. After six days in critical care, Tupac died on September 13 at just 25.

Even more chilling was Knight’s claim that Tupac, aware of his bleak condition, pleaded to be let go even allegedly asking his mother for help dying. Suge said doctors intervened, but after that, Afeni asked for peace and took steps to have him cremated immediately.
