Tu Yaa Main Review: Adarsh Gourav, Shanaya Kapoor’s Creature Feature Is A Fun Time At The Movies!
hauterrfly Rating: 3 / 5

Creature feature films are quite rare in Hindi cinema now, but we finally have one after a long time, and a good one! You must have seen glimpses of Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor’s Tu Yaa Main, also featuring a crocodile. Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, and inspired by the Thai film The Pool, this one is surprisingly quite fun. Well, having said that, Tu Yaa Main also follows a number of cliches that are not very entertaining, but overall, it’s a film that will give you a good time at the movies. Read our review

Plot

It follows the story of two content creators, Avani AKA Miss Vanity (Shanaya Kapoor) with 2 million followers and growing and Aala Flowpara (Adarsh Gourav) from Nala Sopara, a rapper and creator. The two creators have very different lives, and the film establishes that striking contrast by showcasing them in split screens, which is quite cool. The first half of the film is mostly about the growing romance between the two, which is not an acceptable one as they come from different backgrounds. However, in the second half of the film, the mood entirely changes. Avani and Flo take a trip to Goa but things don’t go as planned. Under unavoidable circumstances, the two take shelter in a shoddy place. The plot twist happens when the two get stuck in a pool but it’s not just them. There’s also a crocodile that they have to deal with. The second half is a survival thriller which is also turns out to be a test of Flo and Avani’s relationship.

What’s Fun?

Tu Yaa Main attempts to do something new in times when we need it the most, and we are not regretting this experience for sure. For me, the second of the film is a very thrilling and engaging watch. Flo and Avani’s narrow escapes to save themselves from the crocodile, some nail-biting twists, one where I screamed at the top of my voice, and of course the maintained tension around whether the two will make it out alive, all these elements make the post-interval watch very intense. The blue colour gradient throughout translates the coldness and isolation that the characters were feeling in the exact moment. While I write this review, colours used in the film are an important part of my memory from Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor’s Tu Yaa Main. It delivers the needed impact! I was feeling a mix of both fear and fun. There was a sense of concern of what’s going to happen next but I was equally amused to watch the characters fight for their lives. Some shots in the film are really done well to evoke jump scares.

Adarsh Gourav clearly enjoys his character as the rapper Flopara but the actor is equally convincing as the ignorant, silly, a little annoying, coward but good at heart boyfriend. He casually throws in dialogues that make for some good laughs in the film. Shanaya Kapoor gets to explore as an actor and she has done a really good job. I also liked Fabric’s character in the film played by Ansh Vikas Chopra was also a comic relief in the film.

Initially the CGI is is weak but it gets better in the second half, and does not bother.

What’s Not Good?

The screenplay of Bejoy Nambiar’s film is not very impressive. At least in the first half, Tu Yaa Main deals with many cliches which I am kinda bored of. It has the limited knowledge of social media again, there are cliche portrayals of the creators and their managers, the development of Avani and Flo’s love story is also very loosely stitched. Basically the film’s screenplay chooses to keep things superficial. Overall, the film’s story may feel silly and I couldn’t ignore such flaws. But if you sit through this, the film will only surprise you in a good way.

Verdict

Tu Yaa Main is an overall fun time at the movies but well, though not without flaws. The performances by the lead actors are impressive and the movie keeps the stakes of fear and fun consistently high! Bejoy Nambiar’s film will hit the theatres on February 13, 2026. Planning a movie date for Valentine’s? This one definitely deserves a spot on your watchlist!
