Train To Busan’s Director Set To Debut New Movie Colony At Cannes Film Festival 2025

Critically acclaimed movie Train To Busan’s director Yeon Sang Ho’s new action thriller film is all set to be screened at the world’s largest platform for films. The movie is scheduled for release in 2026 and will be showcased at Cannes alongside other promising projects, as per reports on May 12.

The movie’s production team, SHOWBOX, has also confirmed the news, according to the media reports. Colony features an all-star cast with actors like Kim Shin Rok, Shin Hyun Been, Koo Kyo Hwan, Jun Ji Hyun, and Ji Chang Wook.

The plot follows the story of the release of a genetically modified virus that causes a biotechnology symposium to go horribly wrong. The surviving building survivors, who struggle to survive, face an existential threat as the infected residents go through a horrifying metamorphosis. The film is currently being produced by some of the biggest studios and media houses and will be distributed through an online movie streaming platform from South Korea.

SHOWBOX strives to utilise the Cannes platform to attract a broader international viewership for the film. According to MBC Entertainment, the movie’s production started in March and it would be released in theaters the following year in 2026. Many people are predicting that the movie may rank among the most popular Korean films of 2026. The director’s most well-known films include Parasyte, Hellbound, Peninsula, and Train to Busan.
