Even before its official release, the film came under major scrutiny for its portrayal of women and s*xualising them in multiple scenes. Now that the trailer has been dropped, the audience has got more context about the storyline, with the female characters seemingly taking on bold avatars and pivotal roles. The Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown Ups’ trailer starts with a young boy weeping as Yash is seen in a wounded condition. At one point, the main lead loses it and points a gun at him. It quietly transitions into showing his violent nature while giving a more detailed look into the female characters’ contribution to the storyline. The conviction that Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi and Nayanthara bring to their characters has truly made us look forward to watching the film. They appear to have an active and pivotal role in the storyline. Having mentioned this, it’s hard not to cringe at a few dialogues. One of which includes interaction between two female characters where one calls herself his “regular”, while the other calls herself his “permanent”, turning their dynamic with Yash into an almost competitive comparison. When it comes to the dialogue delivery, all the actors have powerfully delivered! However, the same old dialogues that some expect from the larger-than-life main lead are included. In the end, the audience met with an unexpected twist, aka Yash’s double role, where he is playing his son. The battle between the two has elevated the hype surrounding the film.

Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups stars Yash in a double role, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Rukmini Vasanth, Akshay Oberoi and more. The film has been directed by Geetu Mohandas and will be releasing on August 26.
