TMC Files FIR Against Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2 Producers. Here’s What Prompted The Move
TMC accused the makers of allegedly 'twisting' the history of Bengal's contribution to India's freedom struggles.

Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2 seems to be surrounded by controversy after West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress attacked the makers. They accused the makers of allegedly ‘twisting’ the history of the state’s contribution to India’s freedom struggles and also insulting Bengali Revolutionaries. An FIR has been filed against seven producers of the film, under multiple sections of BNS at the Bidhannagar South police station.
TMC Files FIR Against Kesari 2
As quoted by News18, the controversy stemmed from a scene that allegedly misrepresented two key freedom fighters from Bengal, including Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh. TMC claimed that the film referred to Khudiram Bose as ‘Khudiram Singh’ and Barindra Kumar Ghosh as ‘Barinder Kumar’ from Amritsar. They called it a ‘deliberate distortion of history’ and a ‘deep insult to Bengal.’
Senior TMC officials Kunal Ghosh and Arup Chakraborty held a press conference at the party’s headquarters to denounce the representation. Ghosh said, “The names of Bengali revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom were being distorted. This is not just a mistake — this is a conspiracy to erase Bengal’s role in the freedom movement.” He questioned how such a film could get a censor certificate.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also indirectly criticised the makers for trying to undermine the contributions of Bengal’s freedom fighters, accusing them of acting in collusion with the BJP. She expressed concern over efforts to diminish the role of Bengali revolutionaries during the independence struggle and condemned these attempts, stating that the BJP has been targeting Bengal and its cultural heritage.
More On The Case
The TMC went on to claim that the BJP-led government has often tried to undermine the history and culture of Bengal. Apart from this, Kesari 2 also allegedly misrepresents the man who trained the young men about bomb making, called Hemchandra Kanungo. They called him Kripal Singh, according to Kunal Ghosh. After demanding action from the Centre, the BJP said that the TMC was making an issue out of a non-issue.
Noted Bengali actor Ritwick Chakraborty also chastised the filmmakers for not paying enough attention to facts and details. A portion of the Bengali audience has also resorted to social media to vent their displeasure and seek answers. The film stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday in lead roles.
