Tillotama focused on the importance of authenticity in becoming better allies. “I think just creating space, yaar, she begins, highlighting the need for men to recognize and address the inequalities in various spaces, especially workplaces. We know it’s unequal in our workspace, representation, not being artificial about being progressive,” she stresses. For Shome, the key lies in sincerity and a willingness to learn and adapt. “If you are confused, just ask like a woman would ask, ‘Is this okay?'” she suggests.

The concept of feminism was also touched upon by Tillotama Shome which is often misunderstood. “I think it’s misunderstood; it has a bad rep; it’s not only about bra-burning women,” she clarifies. To her, feminism means respecting all genders equally and basic dignity for every human being irrespective of their sex or gender identity. She talks about Qissa also discussing how that film shaped her view on gender. “Qissa showed me that there isn’t any fixed definition of a man and there isn’t any fixed definition of a woman either.” She believes that recognizing the long-standing inequality is the first step towards creating a more balanced and fair society. “Once that gets shattered, then you acknowledge it has been unequal for so long. So it would be nice if you made some space,” she concludes.
