When Kangana Ranaut announced that she has donned the producer’s hat for a new production venture titled Tiku Weds Sheru, everyone was excited because we know that Kangana does not invest in frivolous projects. So, imagine my horror and surprise after I watched this said romantic comedy and ended up with a throbbing headache after it ended. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur in her debut, Tiku Weds Sheru is a film that made me wonder what was the point of it. The film is directed by Sai Kabir and sheds light on some very serious issues like the casting couch and how the film industry is no safe place for women. But the atrocious pace and randomness of the film marred all essence of Tiku Weds Sheru.

The Plot of Tiku Weds Sheru

Sheru AKA Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a junior artist who works in films but also has a dark side business. He is urged to get married by his family to Tiku AKA Avneet Kaur. Well, despite being several years younger than him, Tiku agrees to marry Sheru because she just wants to get out of her toxic house and go to Mumbai. Tiku is happy that he has a wife now but lies to her about her side business making her believe that he is a superstar in films.

But things go south really quickly after Tiku gets pregnant and it is not Sheru’s baby. Things become really chaotic after this point as Sheru gets arrested, and Tiku learns that he has been lying to her. So, she wants to take up acting as her profession but gets embroiled in a casting couch situation that does not even land her the job. The end is just bits and pieces put together to give the audience an ending.

The cast of Tiku Weds Sheru

I was extremely surprised to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui deliver badly. All he has done in the film is said cuss words and that too does not feel right in any given situation. He just creepily stares at Tiku AKA Avneet throughout the film which made me squirm in my seat. Avneet Kaur, on the other hand, did a far better job than Nawazuddin. She played the bubbly aspiring girl with much conviction but the poor writing of the film did not do justice to her. So much so that she began to feel like a misfit in the story.

The plot of Tiku Weds Sheru was quite heavy and it needed to be executed gently. But the atrocious editing of the film did not give me time to register what was even happening in the previous frame before it threw me into something serious. Oh, the dialogues were equally bad, alright. Nothing made sense in the film. I still do not know what the point of Tiku Weds Sheru is. It is neither a love story nor is it a drama film and it most certainly is not a comedy.

Verdict

Tiku Weds Sheru keeps getting confusing with every passing scene and the random chronology of the scenes does not make it any better. I did not have any problem with the age gap per se but Avneet and Nawaz did not make a good pair either. So, please, I say for your own good that you should skip this one because I do not wish for you to go through what I did.

Tiku Weds Sheru was dropped on Prime Video.
