How much gore is too much gore? But well, here gore is served with a side of violence. And if that’s your type, then this review of an upcoming horror action film titled They Will Kill You may interest you. Directed by Kirill Sokolov, the film stars Zazie Beetz and Tom Felton. Myha’la and Patricia Arquette are in the lead roles. It deals with themes of class warfare, satanic rituals, and sibling bonds. It’s a quirky and silly film that grabs your attention not for the story but for the gore and action. Read on.
Plot
The story starts with introducing sisters Asia Reaves (Zazie Beetz ) and Maria Reaves (Myha’la) running away from their violent father. But the escape turns into tragedy, and Asia gets arrested for a crime. Fast forward 10 years, and Asia takes up a housekeeper’s job at a wealthy house named Virgil, located in New York City. However, we also get to learn about Asia’s sole purpose of taking up this risky job at a house where maids disappear.
Screenplay
Written by Kirill Sokolov and Alex Litvak, They Will Kill You suffers from weak writing. There are a lot of gore action sequences; however, the rich-poor theme that the film strives to explore somewhere gets lost in all the killings. The narrative about Asia and Maria’s troubled relationship as sisters is not explored with any real depth. In fact, the characters are very shallow, and it doesn’t even leave much of an impact on us. There is nothing remotely engaging about the screenplay from a narrative POV. Apart from Asia, Maria, and Lilith (Patricia Arquette), all other characters are very poorly written. The narrative itself doesn’t take them seriously. The climax, particularly, was not very enjoyable.
Perfomances
Actors can do only so much with the characters. However, in intense action sequences, Zazie Beetz is absolutely thrilling. I thoroughly found myself enjoying her sword fight scenes, and the actor’s energy was unmatchable. Patricia Arquette as the evil Lilith, the leader of the satanic cult, is quite convincing. Myha’la as Maria Reaves also delivers an impressive performance with whatever little that the script demands. A very grounded performance among the lot was by Paterson Johnson as Lilith’s husband, and his character, too, came with some decent writing.

Action And Gore
There is too much gore in the film, and they are unhinged. Now, when I think about it, I can only visualise the multiple action sequences with bloodshed. However, a few scenes were quite fun to watch because of the interesting camera work. Although, after a point, it gets exhausting because They Will Kill You refuses to deal with any real storytelling!

Verdict
They Will Kill You is not a very lengthy film. The film’s screenplay and character writing are hardly impressive. The themes are superficially touched upon, and there is nothing for you to take back. Those 90-plus minutes in the theatres are only spent watching a screen covered in blood for the most part. Initially, it may seem exciting, but eventually it wears off once you realise that there is no solid plot to hold it together, and this realisation does not take long. The film hit theatres on March 27, 2026.
