The Summer I Turned Pretty Warns Fans With Anti-Bullying Policy on Instagram Ahead Of Season 3. Here’s Why!

With Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty coming up, the official Instagram for the show has made a big move to ensure its online environment is friendly and respectful to cast members and fans alike. On July 14, the account posted a reminder that although the world of Cousins Beach is one of love triangles and drama galore, the fandom online must be respectful and supportive.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Instagram Rolls Out Anti-Bullying Policy

The post featured the Cousins Beach, the show’s fictional world by calling it a “safe space” where “everything good, everything magical” occurs, asking fans to bring that same energy to their online conversations. But this wasn’t merely a message of feel-goodness—it was accompanied by explicit community guidelines designed to discourage toxic fan culture.

As the update stated, the series now has a strong zero-tolerance policy regarding hate speech, harassment, and doxxing. Bullying or harassing the cast, crew, or other viewers of the show was specifically requested of fans. Offenders, the account explicitly stated, will be banned.

While some may question why such strong measures are needed for a teen drama about summer romance and sibling conflict, the truth is that fandoms these days can very easily become toxic. Angry arguments about fictional relationships, particularly between Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah fans have sometimes bled over into personal vendettas and threats.

Actress Lola Tung, who plays Belly, addressed this intensity in a recent interview, admitting that while it’s heartwarming to see how deeply fans care, the passion can sometimes cross a line. “I appreciate that people are so invested,” she said, “but threatening people over fictional characters isn’t the way.”
