The Summer I Turned Pretty has become the talk of the town. Everyone wants to know who Belly would end up with between Conrad and Jeremiah. And now, in a recent conversation, Sean Kaufman, playing Steven, revealed how he never expected his character to become so complicated. He said that he never thought his character would ever find himself in such an emotional crossover. For the unversed, in the new season, Steven tries to process his feelings for Taylor (Rain Spencer) and Denise (Isabella Briggs).

In a conversation with PEOPLE, Sean Kaufman said, “When we started season 3, we weren’t given all the scripts, so to go episode by episode and see the love triangle start to form was very interesting and fun.” He said that Stevens’ love triangle with Denise and Taylor added layers in The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, the dramatic turn has turned out to be quite stressful for the actor.
Kaunfman said that he now had empathy for the main love triangle, as he initially didn’t understand the intensity between the whole Belly choosing between Conrad and Jeremiah. He said that Taylor was Stevens’ first love and that it was difficult for him to move on from that. On the other hand, he praised Denise for pushing his character to new things. Sean also mentioned that, unlike the intensity of ‘Steven’ and ‘Taylor’, his relationship with ‘Denise’ feels calmer and free of unnecessary drama. However, who he will choose will only be revealed in subsequent episodes.
