TMF: Shweta Basu Prasad Once Tweaked A Scene To Add A Female Perspective

Filmmaking has been a field that was mostly considered to be male-dominated. However, women have always proven themselves to be equally capable in this field, even if they might not have gotten an equal playing field. Nevertheless, things are different now, as we see more female filmmakers in the industry. In the new episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, Shweta Basu Prasad shared her opinion on this profession as she is also one of them, and even shed some light on the importance of female perspectives in a film.

Episode 13 of The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan was graced by the Makdi girl, Shweta Basu Prasad. The actress and filmmaker had an enlightening conversation with the Male Feminist on various topics like consent, equality, feminism etc. One among such was female filmmakers. Shweta Prasad Basu was asked about whether or not women still face challenges and biases as filmmakers and their movies. To which the actress replied saying “Not anymore.” In fact, Shweta also said that gender no longer matters in this case. Adding to this, she also said that she got her commission on the OTT platform Netflix based on merit.

However, Shweta also elaborated on this topic saying that the female perspective in scripts is very important. She also backed this point with an example from the time when she was shooting the show, Ray. Shweta revealed that she took the permission of the makers and writers to make a slight change in one of her monologue scenes. The actress felt the need to do this solely because she wanted to highlight the character’s pain and feelings from the women’s perspective, which was slightly missing from the original one. However, Shweta did this keeping the structure intact.
