It is often hard to break free from the shackles of stereotypes if you’re living in Indian society. Especially when it comes to differentiating between a girl and a boy. Speaking about the same is actress Debina Bonnerjee. In the latest episode of The Male Feminist with Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Debina spoke about the reason behind her parents living with her.
The actress spoke–”Society has conditioned it in a way that parents will only live with the guy. And I never understood why? Why is it that they can’t stay with the girl? And if she can, then why not. Who has set the rules that the parents will stay with the son?” She further mentioned–” I keep my parents with me because I like it. And as I was proud to give birth to my daughters because that is my normal. And if the society accepts this fact then celebrating the birth of a boy and mourning when a daughter is born will all be over.”

Debina added that more than her, people have a problem that why her husband/actor Gurmeet’s parents don’t live with them. She adds, “Then people call him (Gurmeet) a bad son. Why bad son? My brother also doesn’t stay with my parents and it is out of my choice. I said I want to live with my parents. That doesn’t make my brother bad.”
In further conversation, the actress mentioned how these preconceived rules should be changed and there shouldn’t be anything dividing men from women. Check out the full interview here.
