Exclusive: ‘The Male Feminist’ Ep3: Kirti Kulhari Wants More Grey Male And Female Characters In Films. Our Ideas Align With Her’s!!

Her answer was simple yet impactful!

Movies are a reflection of society, I believe. With the changing ideas and perspectives of the people, it is crucial that movies reflect the same kind of change through the stories too. And a great deal of change in this is how we the characters are written in the films. For a long time now, actresses did not really have an important role or character in Indian films, in fact, they just revolved around the hero’s character, to be very honest. But now with a handful of films, we can say that this is changing because we are getting impactful women representation too. In episode 3 of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, Kirti Kulhari spoke about her thoughts on this and more, and I agree with her.

In conversation with Siddharth Aalambayan, actress Kirti Kulhari, who was recently seen in Four More Short Please, season 3 discussed her ideas of what male and female representation in films are currently and what she expects it to be. Kirti first talked about the cliche representation of male actors in Bollywood and how it all boils down to being just about six-pack abs and the ideal man that with no flaws. The actress expressed how she wants to see more grey characters. Furthermore, Kirti Kulhari also addressed women’s representation in films and said that she would rather prefer it to be very real. By that, she meant that women are so diverse in themselves, in terms of colour, size, culture, and attitude, and that is what films should actually show.

Well, Kirti’s answer to this was entirely on point. The more relatable male and female characters we have in our films, the more audience can connect with them. We definitely do not want to see an epitome of perfection in films, whether it is male or women representation because then it set wrong and impractical ideas and notions in the minds of the audience. Cinema is a medium that can teach and make people aware of so many things in society, and create progressive thinking, and a lot of it depends on the characters that are present in it.
