One of the songs in the album titled ‘Opalite’ is particularly gaining attention for reportedly being about Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole. Read on to know why fans think so.
Taylor Swift’s song ‘Opalite’ is widely believed to be about her beau, Travis Kelce and her journey towards finding true love while dealing with failed past relationships and eventually finding her fairytale romance. However, it is the second verse that got many intrigued, where Taylor seems to address Kelce’s love life before the couple met.
Why People Think Taylor Swift’s Opalite Lyrics Allude to Travis Kelce’s Ex-Girlfriend Kayla Nicole
The lyrics of the song read, “You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone/ You were in it for real, she was in her phone, and you were just a pose.”
Many users on the internet believe these lyrics are about Tavis Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicol, who dated him for roughly 5 years in 2017. The couple had a public relationship and were spotted together at multiple red carpet events.
A video of Travis Kelce begging Kayla to get off her phone also surfaced once Swift’s song went viral. According to People, Kayla argued in another video that she wouldn’t have to “seek validation from a bunch of strangers on the internet” if someone would “pay attention” to her.
Further lyrics of ‘Opalite’ read “And don’t we try to love love? We give it all we got / You finally left the table, and what a simple thought / You’re starving ’til you’re not.”
Taylor Swift has never publicly addressed Kayla Nicole. Nicole did come under scrutiny when, in 2023, she unfollowed Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes. This happened shortly after Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, stepped out with Swift at a dinner in New York City.
