ALLDAY PROJECT’s Tarzzan Under Fire For New Photoshoot Pictures
Recently, ALLDAY PROJECT posed for W Korea wearing casual and streetwear-inspired clothes. The photos aimed to show a more laid-back, trendy side of the group. However, just shortly after the pictures went live, a close-up of Tarzzan went viral on social media.
In the image, some users said that Tarzzan’s skin tone looked darker than it usually appears to be, and this has created confusion among many. The post made about this topic reached more than five million views on X (formerly Twitter), and sparked debates about whether the change was due to makeup, lighting, editing, or concept styling.
Some pointed out that photoshoots tend to involve a lot of bright lights, shadows, and edited colours. That could easily make someone look lighter or darker, depending on the concept. Magazine shoots often take on a very different look from official K-pop promotions, so changes in appearance for idols are common. Many Korean fans defended Tarzzan by explaining it’s common for East Asian people to have naturally tanned skin and showed pictures of the idol having it even as a kid.
However, others were wary of this explanation as Tarzzan has often been criticised for appropriating black culture in the past. The ALLDAY Project member came under controversy for wearing braids that are associated with black culture and fashion, hence many accuse him of cosplaying as a black person.
