“Round 2 for me… I still got this,” Tahira wrote in a post that has since flooded social media with support. Known for her candour and positivity, she reflected on her diagnosis with a mix of resilience and dry humour: “When life becomes too generous and throws lemons again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink.” The message, while light-hearted in tone, was a powerful reminder of the importance of regular mammograms and early detection. Tahira was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. Since then, she’s been a strong voice for cancer awareness, using her personal experiences to open up meaningful conversations about health, stigma, and self-worth. Just last month, she posted an image of herself with a clean-shaven head, embracing the changes brought on by treatment with grace and strength.
Her caption read, “Life is to celebrate gratitude all the way,” while also honouring other cancer survivors. “Let everyone’s experience be a reminder to value our lives. Early breast cancer detection is curable, not just treatable,” she wrote. Earlier, in an interaction with ANI, Tahira had emphasised the need for affordable treatment and awareness: “Cancer is a journey that tests your strength, resilience, and faith… Together, we can beat cancer.”
Beyond her advocacy, Tahira recently made her directorial debut with Sharmajee Ki Beti, a coming-of-age film about women from different generations. The film premiered on Prime Video in June 2023 and was praised for its heartfelt storytelling.
