Former NCT member Taeil was recently sentenced to three years and six months in prison for s*xually assaulting a woman with two other acquaintances. On July 16, Korean media outlet Star Today reported that the two people involved in the crime have appealed for an appeal after the verdict was given. Read on to know more about the case.

On July 10, Moon Taeil was sentenced to three years and six months in prison for what South Korean law calls special quasi r*pe. This law applies to cases when the victim is unconscious and two or more perpetrators are involved. The maximum sentence for that crime is life in prison.

Along with the three-year sentence, Former NCT member Taeil was ordered to complete a 40-hour s*xual violence treatment program. Netizens were disappointed with the sentence as they felt that it was too light considering the severity of Taeil’s crime. Prosecution has previously demanded a sentence of seven years in prison along with other employment restrictions.

During the final statement before sentencing, Taeil stated, “I deeply regret the hurt I caused the victim and apologise to everyone disappointed by this incident. If you show leniency, I will consider this my last chance at life and do my best to contribute to society.”
