Former NCT Member Taeil’s Court Date Scheduled For Appeal Trial In Aggravated Rape Case

Earlier this year, former NCT member Taeil shocked the entire world when it was revealed that he was under investigation for s*xual misconduct. The group’s agency swiftly removed Taeil from NCT and their artist lineup. The disgraced K-pop idol was then sentenced to jail for 3.5 years for molesting a foreign woman. Taeil then filed an appeal to get his sentence lightened. The first appeal trial was held today. Read on to know more.

Court Date Scheduled For Former NCT Member Taeil’s Appeal Trial

Former NCT member Taeil is again seen heading to court for his appeal trial. After a month of appealing, the date for the trial has officially been announced. The scheduled date for the appeal session has been decided to be held on September 17 for Taeil, who was convicted earlier this year on charges of aggravated quasi rape.

Taeil was accused of assaulting an intoxicated foreign woman along with two acquaintances in June 2023. Aggravated rape is defined as when a weapon is used or when two or more perpetrators target someone unconscious or unable to resist under the Korean law.

In the initial trial, Taeil pleaded guilty to all the charges put on him; however, his legal team claimed that the act was not planned. The court then declared a prison sentence of three years and six months for him.  He was also ordered to complete a s*xual violence treatment program, have his identity disclosed to the public, and was banned from working in institutions related to children or teens for five years.

Before the sentencing, Taeil expressed in his final statement that he would treat leniency as the very last chance of his life. However, the court did not accept his plea, and he was taken into custody immediately after the ruling. With his appeal trial now approaching, attention is on whether the court will uphold the initial ruling or lessen his punishment.
