Taaza Khabar Season 2 Review: Bhuvan Bam, Shriya Pilgaonkar And Jaaved Jaaferi’s Performances Rescue This Predictable Series
hauterrfly Rating: 3 / 5

Season 1 of Taaza Khabar, starring Bhuvan Bam (Vasant Gawde), and Shriya Pilgaonkar (Madhu) received mixed opinions; however, the end left everyone curious and wanting more. Even though the story felt mediocre and boring sometimes, it had its positives as well, and just like everyone else, I was looking forward to knowing what happened to Vasant Gawde and how he managed to come back from the dead. The trailer for Taaza Khabar Season 2 looked promising and managed to intrigue me into waiting for it. Moreover, I was convinced by the idea of an intense showdown between the antagonist Jaaved Jaaferi (Yusuf Akhtar) and Bhuvan Bam. This season has six episodes, and after binge-watching the entire season, here’s a detailed review of the highly anticipated series!

Plot Of Taaza Khabar Season 2

After the heinous open murder of Vasant Gawde, Vasya’s family and friends try to cope with his absence, meanwhile a new enemy (Yusuf Akhtar) brings chaos into their lives. Their lives take a massive turn as Yusuf takes away their house and everything worthy enough. They start living in a very small house and struggle with financial problems. However, the tables turn when Vasya returns, leaving his enemies and family in shock. He tries to start a new life and with the help of his gift-Taaza Khabar, he tries to make amends for Yusuf’s losses. Every day Vasant Gawde aka Vasya comes up with an interesting plan to outsmart his enemy, however, Yusuf always stays ahead of him, failing Vasya’s plan and missions. Amid all of this, Vasant also tries to convince Madhu. However, Madhu, who once used to love Vasant has fallen apart and agonises him. Will Vasant and Madhu’s love story take a new turn? (No Spoilers!)

As the story unfolds, Vasant and his family tough and emotional challenges. With every failed move, Yusuf becomes more cruel and warns Vasya that no sneaky moves will work. However, as time runs out, a game-changing feature gets added to the app which changes the dynamic of the story. Vasya and his gang navigate the challenges and go to greater lengths to become rich again and take revenge on Yusuf. As he becomes hopeful, Vasant receives the most exciting piece of news. In the end, there can be only one winner hence, Vasant and Yusuf have to confront each other face to face. So, will Vasya reclaim his throne as Mumbai’s king or will he surrender to the smart and wicked Yusuf?

Performances

Bhuvan Bam As Vasant Gawde: As we remember major actors by their popular characters, I think we will remember Bhuvan Bam as Vasant Gawde. NGL, he left an impressive mark in season 1 and it’s safe to say that he took it up a notch this season. Bhuvan Bam’s way of expressing emotions was impressive. One scene which left a mark on me was when Bhuvan’s eyes did all the talking, the camera was zoomed onto his eyes and he delivered exactly what was needed at that moment. Bhuvan’s ability to resonate with the audience is commendable. Also, Vasant’s chemistry with Madhu was beautiful!

Shriya Pilgaonkar As Madhu: Shriya portrayed Madhu’s sassy and fierce behaviour with ease. Her evolution and depth as an actor were seen throughout the series. From her vulnerable moments to powerful sequences, her performance never felt forced or too much and was as natural as it could be. The chemistry she shares with Bhuvan is commendable, and it adds the emotional factors the series needs.

Jaaved Jaaferi As Yusuf Akhtar: In the era where every film’s antagonist is raising the bar higher, Jaaved Jaaferi didn’t let down. He was ruthless, wicked, cunning and powerful. His voice brought a more menacing quality and helped him nail the role of an antagonist. At times Jaaved made me feel how could someone be so cruel? There weren’t any moments where he let his heart take over his mind. Furthermore, his sequences with Bhuvan were intense and gripping and will keep you on the edge.

Supporting Cast: From Shazia, and Mehboob to Aapa, Peter, and others; it was like one big family. Everyone balanced each other’s skills very well and had this amazing camaraderie that made their bond look super smooth. Mentioning Vasya’s family, and their evolution brought more emotional factors to the show. From being an ignorant father to supporting his son at his lowest, the arc was visible and truly authentic. Watching how everyone connected emotionally and had each other’s backs was heartwarming. It felt so real and their bond was so strong, you could feel it through the screen!

Verdict: Average Storyline, Mindblowing Performances

Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first season however, the trailer for season 2 raised my hopes. Season 1 and Season 2 has its positives and negatives. In my opinion, season 1 had more negatives and was mediocre. The pace of the show also felt too fast for me. Like, the change in Vasant’s character was too quick and generic. However, in the second season, Bhuvan Bam’s character, Vasant Gawde, was well-written. Shriya’s fierce and vulnerable side was a treat to watch! And, oh my! Jaaved Jaaferi as Yusuf was a menace. However, at times the show felt predictable and wasn’t particularly mindblowing. If you leave your audience on a cliffhanger, they expect a gripping and intense tale. Sadly, I couldn’t feel or see any of that.

On a positive note, in Season 2, the camaraderie between Bhuvan and his gang was my favourite and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bhuvan and Shriya’s beautiful chemistry was a cherry on the cake. In the entire series, only two or three dialogues stood out ; the the rest were average. Javed Jaaferi’s performance as the villain was impressive and worth mentioning. Another favourite part was the emotional factor, I loved the characters’ emotional dependency on each other. While the cinematography was good,  Season 2 was interesting to watch as each episode connected with the next one. There were some unnecessary sub-plots which could have been avoided as it didn’t make any sense. So, the storyline was average however, the performances were mindblowing. If you want to watch some good acting, then it’s recommended! It will premiere on Disney+Hotstar on September 27.
