Sydney Sweeney Draws Criticism For Mentioning Jacob Elordi Amid Bathwater Soap Scandal

Seems like Sydney Sweeney is on a streak of making headlines with every statement she makes. The actress’s recent controversial American Eagle jeans ad drew attention from even the President of the White House, and also when she sold her bathwater-infused soap with Dr. Squatch. Now the actress has addressed the social media buzz generated from the Dr. Squatch collaboration, and her response is attracting a lot of criticism. Read to know more.

Sydney Sweeney Responds To Backlash Caused After She Sold Her Bathwater

Sydney Sweeney, who is best known for her role as Cassie in the hit HBO show Euphoria, recently sat down for an interview with The Wall Street Journal. In the interview, Sweeney talked about her controversial bathwater soap that took the internet by storm. The soap sold out within seconds of its launch. In response to the backlash, Sweeney responded by saying that she thinks “it is important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience.”

This is the reason why Sydney Sweeney said that she noted that it was mainly girls who were making comments about her soap collaboration, which she found very interesting. She also roped in her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi in the situation by saying that “They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.” She referenced Elordi’s scandalous bathtub scene from the 2023 movie Saltburn.

Sydney’s comment immediately drew massive backlash as many accused her of pandering towards the conservative mindset while looking down on people, especially women who were concerned about the portrayal of Sweeney in the media. Many people also called the actress hypocritical for objectifying herself when, a few years back, she had said that she hopes that people would recognise her for her talent and skills

Sydney Sweeney also made headlines again for a jeans ad she did for American Eagle. In the ad campaign, Sydney drew criticism for saying “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour. My jeans are blue.” Many people thought that the ad was referencing eugenics and had racial undertones.

The ad controversy got so much online attention that popular stars like Lizzo, Doja Cat and Stephen Colbert, and even America’s Vice President J.D. Vance and President Donald Trump, weighed in. Sydney Sweeney did not address the American Eagle Ad; however, the company did release a statement on their social media saying, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
