This is far from the first time that the Hindi-film actor has called the “barbarism” of the Taliban, who are stripping women’s rights since they came to power. A loud activist, her social media activities even led to her account getting suspended a few years back.
Apart from Swara Bhasker, Gauahar Khan called this newest penal code “disgusting.” Meanwhile, another actor Nandish Sandhu questioned how sensible this new domestic violence rule actually was.
What Is The Taliban Domestic Abuse Law That Had Swara Raging?
Top leader Hibatullah Akhundzada signed a new penal code that went on to fill 90 pages about the laws. The domestic abuse law is okay with husbands beating their wives as long as there are no broken bones or physical marks. So basically, men have free reign on their wives, just so they remain careful not to go to the extreme.
The very fact that a country’s law permits the beating of women is a reminder of how these men want women under absolute control to humiliate them, hurt them, and leave them with no options. #Afghanistan under #taliban pic.twitter.com/24BRhxjOzO

If the physical injuries happen, the woman must show up in court covered with a husband or a male member. Then she must display the mark to the court. If convicted, the abusive husband would go to jail for a grand total of 15 days. Notably, women who aren’t covered receive prison sentences of 3 months. And yeah, the wife could bring her husband to court as her guardian, even if he is her abuser. Absolutely crazy.
