Sushmita Sen Opens Up On People Trying To Suppress Her Freedom
On Saturday afternoon, Rhea Chakraborty’s debut podcast show, Chapter 2 with Sushmita Sen, aired on her YouTube channel. They talked about the unpredictability of life and the importance of staying true to one’s self. As society expects women to not speak much, the former Miss Universe shared a similar experience when she was told to hold back on what she says on TV. Sushmita Sen said that when she won the Miss Universe title, society was not as open as it is today. She further added that even today there are many “haww” moments, but during those times everything was considered like that. She further revealed that it was so deep that her parents had to sit her down and ask her to hold back on what she said during interviews.
Sushmita Sen’s parents told her that Shobha De, a journalist, wrote a bad article because she used the word s*x during an interview. Her parents further asked her not to use the word s*x in an interview as she was only 18 years old. Moreover, since they are Bengalis, only intellectual articles bothered them and not gossipy ones. However, later, the former Miss Universe purposely brought up the word s*x during an interview with Shobha De. She revealed the reason behind that was because she wanted to be a liberated human being, someone who was truly free. She further added that, due to her freedom, she won the Miss Universe title. But she added that she had to fight a lot with people who tried to curb her freedom. She further revealed that many parents thought of her as a bad influence on children due to her outspoken personality. For the unversed, Sushmita Sen won the Miss India Universe 1994 pageant.
