“Very Dirty Mind”: Supreme Court Criticises Ranveer Allahbadia For India’s Got Latent Remark

The Supreme Court of India, on Tuesday, strongly condemned popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for his controversial remarks made during an episode of comedian Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’ show on YouTube. The apex court described Allahbadia’s comments as deeply offensive and indicative of a very dirty mindset, asserting that such behaviour cannot be tolerated in a civilised society.

Supreme Court On Ranveer Allahbadia

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh was hearing Allahbadia’s plea to quash multiple FIRs lodged against him across different states. The court provided interim protection from arrest but did not hold back in criticising the content of the YouTuber’s remarks.

“Such behaviour has to be condemned,” the bench remarked. “Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted. There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited. Why should we protect him?” The court noted that the language used during the show was not only vulgar but also deeply disrespectful to societal values. Justice Kant commented, “The words you have chosen, parents will be ashamed, sisters will be ashamed.

The entire society will feel ashamed. The perversion you and your henchmen have exhibited!” The court also instructed Allahbadia to refrain from uploading any new content on YouTube until further orders. The bench emphasized the potential negative influence of such content on young audiences, given Allahbadia’s significant social media reach. Additionally, the Supreme Court directed the podcaster to surrender his passport to the Thane police station and barred him from traveling abroad without prior approval from the court. “The petitioner shall deposit his passport at the Thane police station and shall not leave the country without the court’s permission,” Justice Kant stated.

Allahbadia’s legal team sought to consolidate all FIRs into one jurisdiction to streamline the legal process. The court, however, expressed caution about granting any blanket relief without thoroughly examining the nature and impact of the comments made.
The case has sparked public debate about the responsibilities that come with digital influence and the need for social media personalities to exercise restraint while creating content for mass consumption.
