Who Will Inherit Sunjay Kapur’s Estate? Delhi HC Reserves Order In Sunjay Kapur Estate Case

The legal case pertains to late Sunjay Kapur's will.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ended the interim phase of the courtroom fight for control of the estate of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, reserving its order on the petition for an injunction filed by his children from his second marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor. The court also clarified that it will not entertain any further petitions before it gives the final ruling. Read on to know more. 

Delhi HC Reserves Order On Karisma Kapoor’s Children’s Plea In Sunjay Kapur Estate Dispute

The dispute centres on Sunjay Kapur’s personal estate, which has become the subject of a dispute over the ownership of his personal property between his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, and his two children through his wife Karisma Kapoor as the two children’s legal guardians.

Justice Jyoti Singh, presiding over the case, in a statement said, “Both the arguments made and written submissions made by various parties have been taken note of and are now taken on record. In view of this, it has been decided by the court to reserve its decision and will not entertain such documents at this stage.”

The dispute began when Karisma Kapoor’s children approached the Delhi High Court, claiming that Priya Sachdev Kapur had fraudulently created Sunjay Kapur’s will. The plaintiffs sought an interim injunction to prevent Priya Sachdev Kapur from alienating the property in the estate while the suit is pending.

Representing Priya Kapur, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar denied the allegations and also clarified speculations about Sunjay Kapur’s financial status, saying, “These allegations regarding Sunjay Kapur’s financial status, claiming a turnover of 360 crore rupees and annual income of ₹60 crore, are incorrect.”

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, arguing on behalf of Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, again asserted that the will itself was in question and asked the Court to provide interim relief to refrain from taking any irrevocable action concerning the estate.

The reserved order of the High Court on the interim injunction shall now set the course of the inheritance case.
